tales for dreamers: colour-changing flowers
The flowers are a dazzling pink today. It’s obvious why they chose this colour against the unyielding grey of the house and the bleak grey of the skies. The grass is a lush green, and the unexpected explosion of pink makes it even more so.
No one knows what the true colours of the flowers are. But everyone knows they seek to strike a contrast with their surroundings.
When the sky shines brilliant on a summer afternoon, the flowers take on a cornflower blue hue.
When the setting sun dyes the horizon crimson and pink, the flowers turn scarlet.
When the night is purple, the flowers shine a resplendent white, like a cluster of stars lighting the way home for lost souls wandering on the path.
Sometimes they even turn green, especially towards the end of autumn, to give the impression of last leaves lingering on the branches.
But when the first snow falls, the flowers know to make a graceful exit. They know not only when and how to shine but also when and how to surrender.
