tales for dreamers: story-walk
They will tell you to begin with the first board.
But sometimes the boards change their minds after they’ve been planted and choose to rearrange themselves the way they think the story should unfold.
Finding the first board then becomes the first hurdle.
(Sometimes the boards shuffle themselves in the midst of your search, so try to keep them all in sight if you can. Don't ask me how. That's for you to decipher.)
Or you could choose to follow the story the way it wants to present itself to you. Starting from the middle, zigzagging through chapters that should have been at the beginning or towards the end, until it’s all a fine jumble in your head and you can’t wait to see what will come next. (Now that is the hallmark of a really good tale.)
Whichever way you choose to proceed, the story-walk will land you smack dab in the heart of the storm. There is no escaping that.
If that scares you, don’t be fooled into thinking you could simply turn back the way you came or find another route, a safer one, to your destination.
Sure, you wouldn’t have to put yourself through the labour of finding your story then.
But there will always be other storms lying in wait.
