Hello, Dreamer!
Welcome home! ✨
Hello, Dreamer!
If you enjoy speculative fiction steeped in mysticism and soul-searching,
if you yearn for offbeat, whimsical tales of deities and dreams, of loss and longing, of grief and gallantry, of hiraeth and heartbreak,
if you long for stories that feel like dreams, shimmering and sparkling, shape-shifting and slippery all at once,
you'll find that your meanderings have brought you home.
Welcome!

Writing fantasy fiction with heart and soul
I'm Anitha Krishnan, speculative fiction author and award-winning poet. I write fantasy fiction, often Indian-inspired, steeped in mysticism and soul-searching.
My contemporary fantasy novel, Dying Wishes, was a finalist for the 2023 Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize in the Speculative Fiction category.
I have lived in and left pieces of my heart in many places across the world including Singapore, Australia, Canada, and most of all in my birthplace, India.
I presently live in Burlington, Ontario with my husband (KrA) and our much cherished child (D) who is growing up at a reckless pace.

Tales For Dreamers
An image + A story = A wee world of whimsy and wonder
Many years ago when I began my foray into the world of fiction, I started by writing flash fiction inspired by images of seemingly ordinary-looking places or scenes.
It so happens that magic lurks safely in the places where we don't think to look for it.
Over the years, I've written more than 200 tales, sometimes with alarming regularity. As I focus on writing longer works, I now write these short tales whenever inspiration strikes.
There's a collection of more than 150 such Tales For Dreamers on the website, all of which you can start to read right away!
I've also published some of these Tales For Dreamers stories mixed with music to create immersive story-songs over on my YouTube channel!
All these spaces are meant to serve as realms of calmness, curiosity and deep contemplation. Quiet pauses in the midst of the busyness of life.

Whom I Write For
Let me spin a tale about you now, dear Dreamer.
I write for the quiet rebels.
You fit well into most systems, or at least appear to. You have the degrees and the designations to show for it.
But there’s a desperate longing in your soul for something more beautiful, something more meaningful, something that reminds you how sacred and ephemeral your life is, far too fleeting to be squandered without intention, without purpose.
You’re not the loud one. You’re not the one with hair dyed pink or tattoos curling around your biceps and up your necks. You're not the one with wisps of weed smoke drifting past your lips like lost slivers of your soul.
But you’ve imagined yourself in those garbs, maybe even tried them on briefly. You've often wished you had the bravado to express your angst so unabashedly, even secretly admired those who do.
Yet, something always held you back. Kept you from going too far. Something that knew these expressions, loud and defiant, wouldn’t have soothed your restless soul.
Something that rose quietly but determinedly from a secret place deep within you, leaned over and whispered with great compassion, with unflinching sovereignty,
“Turning inwards is your true act of rebellion.”
Your soul is intimate with darkness and despair, having spent several long nights searching for the truth.
Your heart emerges full of understanding and compassion, for your own rebellions and those of others.
Your minds turn towards stillness, bearing witness to the madness and beauty that coexist in this world and in yourself.
You seek stories that wrap themselves snug around your soul.
You turn to stories that make you think and feel deeply.
Above all, you want your stories to reassure you that this world, this life, despite its merciless vagaries, is still full of beauty and magic.
If this is you, then know that you're the one I write for.
