The sofa on the curb-side was the last straw.

When the owner dragged his old, worn-out sofa out to the curb for the garbage truck or a less fortunate soul to haul away, the monsters were thoroughly affronted.

How dare he dump something so ugly right in front of their front-lawn abode?!

They demanded he take it back inside, but he merely scoffed and shook his head at them and went back inside.

So the monsters have done what they could.

They’ve nailed the sofa to curb.

Not using big, rusty tacks of the kind used to pin a carpet to the floor.

Naah!

These nails are invisible, like a magic spell, and there’s no undoing them, unless the owner of the house were to ask the monsters kindly and politely.

Which he hasn’t, so far.

Both parties have to learn a lot about open, honest communication, rather than resort to outright dismissal (like the homeowner did) or passive aggressive tricks (like the monsters have done).

In the meantime, the sofa remains perched there in all its torn and tattered glory. A warm, comfy place to sit in the sun, seemingly offering a brief respite in the midst of a long, endless journey.

But knowing what I do, I wouldn’t sit on the sofa if I were you.

Who’s to say I too wouldn’t be nailed to the spot until the homeowner and the monsters can agree to a truce?!
