tales for dreamers: the beginning of an idea for a meditation workshop

“What are you doing?”

“Nothing.”

“What are you looking at?”

“Nothing.”

“What are you thinking?”

“Nothing.”

“What are you waiting for?”

“Nothing.”

Nothing is an utterly exasperating answer, so I decide to ask nothing for a while.

The little creature stands there for over an hour, watching the waves roll towards him, lick the soles of his boots, and crawl back to wherever it is they came from.

Occasionally he turns back to make sure I’m still there, guarding him as I promised I would. It is only a quick glance that he affords me, and he turns back once more to whatever it is he was doing.

“What are you doing?”

“Nothing.”

“What are you looking at?”

“Nothing.”

“What are you thinking?”

“Nothing.”

“What are you waiting for?”

“Nothing.”

How is that even possible? I’ve had countless thoughts run through my head in this short while.

But, wait a minute! If the little creature could stand here and enter a space of nothingness, perhaps this is a good place for me to meditate and be still. Wow! What an exciting idea! I guess I need to think a little more about it.
