My mom turned 75 years old today!

I can't wrap my head around that number.

To me, she's always my mom. All-knowing, always regarding me with affection and my life with a mixture of concern and encouragement.

And to her, I'm always her daughter. Agreeing with her on some things, disagreeing with her on most. That hasn't changed in the last few decades.

The one thing that has changed though is our ability to regard each other as adults, individuals with their own ways of thinking and being.

So now our conversations are full of honesty and delight, joy and vulnerability, because we've long ceased to demand that the other bear the burden of our happiness.

I love you, Amma! I love this wiser, more mature phase in our relationship as mother and daughter, as two souls who've had the great fortune to be bound by blood and family in this lifetime. And I cherish every moment I get with you! 💕
